Car detailing prices in Boise: what it costs and what you get

Updated . About 7 minutes to read.

Short answer

Car detailing prices in Boise start around $100 for an exterior, $125 for an interior, and $175 for inside and out, with deep interior work from about $300 and paint correction plus ceramic coating from about $600. Those are the published starting prices of Boise Bros Detailing, a local mobile detailer, which we use as the Boise benchmark throughout this guide.

How much does car detailing cost in Boise?

Most detailers around the Treasure Valley price in two broad bands. The first is maintenance: a thorough wash, wheels, glass, and a light layer of protection outside, or a proper vacuum and wipe-down inside. The second is restoration: stain extraction, pet hair, machine polishing, and long-term protection. The table below shows where those bands land using one local company's published numbers.

Notice the word "from" on every line. A starting price assumes a typical sedan in typical shape. Bigger vehicles and rougher interiors cost more, and any honest detailer will tell you that before they begin, not after. You can see the current list on the Boise Bros Detailing pricing page.

What does each tier actually get you?

The Premium tier is upkeep. It makes a car that is in decent shape look clean again and adds a few weeks of protection outside. It will not pull set-in coffee stains out of a cloth seat or remove the fine swirls you see on dark paint in direct sun. If your car is mostly just dirty, this is the right buy, and you should not let anyone talk you into more.

The Elite Interior tier is a reset. Extraction means hot water is pushed into the carpet and pulled back out with the dirt. That is the step that deals with dog hair worked deep into the fibers, spilled milk, sand from the Boise River, and the gray film that builds up on floor mats over a winter. It takes about three hours because it is slow, hands-on work.

The Elite Exterior tier is long-term protection. The price jumps because the paint is decontaminated with a clay bar, machine polished to remove light defects, and then coated. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, which is why paint with swirls gets polished first. A brand-new car usually needs no correction, so a good detailer inspects the paint and quotes a new-car coating after that look rather than assuming. The coating is what changes the math: a professional ceramic coating lasts years rather than weeks, so the cost is spread over a much longer stretch than a wax.

How do Boise detailing prices compare across the valley?

To help you sanity-check any quote, we checked the websites of 24 Treasure Valley detailers on October 2, 2026. Sixteen publish prices and eight quote only. The ranges below are those published starting prices, with Boise Bros Detailing left out of the ranges and shown in its own column. Prices change, most "starting at" prices vary by vehicle size, and some shops only quote in person, so treat this as a snapshot.

Boise Bros' Premium packages sit in the lowest quarter of published prices. The deep interior is a different story: deep interior packages run about $250 to $300 around the valley, and their Elite Interior at $295.00 is at the upper end of that range. It includes full carpet extraction, steam sanitizing, leather protection, the headliner, and pet hair removal, so compare what is actually included when you line up quotes.

How long does a car detail take?

Longer than most people expect, because the time goes into hand work. Using the same local benchmark: a maintenance exterior or interior takes about an hour, and both together about an hour and a half. A deep interior with carpet extraction and pet hair runs about three hours. The exterior package with clay, a one-step polish, and a ceramic coating takes about four hours, and doing both Elite packages takes about six. Multi-stage paint correction runs 8 to 12 hours or more.

What makes a detailing quote go up?

  • Size. A three-row SUV or crew cab truck has a lot more carpet, glass, and paint than a compact sedan.
  • Time since the last cleaning. Six months of Foothills dust in the vents and kid snacks under the seats takes longer than a car cleaned last month.
  • Pet hair. It weaves into carpet and seat fabric and has to be worked out by hand. It is often the single biggest time cost in an interior.
  • Stains and odors. Smoke, spilled drinks, and anything organic usually need extraction and sometimes repeat passes.
  • Swirls, scratches, and oxidation. Anything that needs a polisher is priced by the hour of machine work it takes.
  • Bonded contamination. Tree sap, road tar, and baked-on bugs from a summer of highway driving add prep time before polishing.
  • Etched water spots. Sprinkler spots that have been baked in by the sun may need extra polishing. Our hard water spots guide explains why.
  • Add-ons. Things like headlight restoration are usually quoted separately.

How do you read a car detailing quote?

A good quote answers a short list of questions without you having to dig. Before you book with anyone, check for these:

  • Is this a starting price or a final price, and when is the final number confirmed?
  • Will someone look at the car in person before work starts?
  • Which areas are included: trunk, headliner, door jambs, engine bay?
  • What protection goes on the paint, and roughly how long should it last?
  • If paint correction is included, is it a one-step polish or a multi-step correction?
  • How long will the job take? A "full detail" finished in 45 minutes is a wash.
  • Is there a travel fee for mobile service?
  • When is payment due, and which payment methods are accepted?

Red flags in a cheap "full detail"

  • A full detail priced like a car wash. Real interior and exterior work takes hours. If the price only covers 40 minutes of labor, that is what you are getting.
  • Vague add-ons. "Pet hair fee may apply" with no range, or a list of extras that appears after the car is half done.
  • No inspection. A firm price given without anyone seeing the car tends to get padded later or rushed through.
  • Very cheap "ceramic." Spray sealants are fine products, but they are not a multi-year coating. Ask what is being applied and how long it is expected to last.
  • Polishing with no paint check. Clear coat is thin. Anyone machine polishing should be looking at how much they have to work with first.

When paying more is not worth it

Skip the expensive tiers if you are turning in a lease in a few months. A Premium interior and exterior before the return is usually enough. Skip correction on a car whose clear coat is already peeling, because polishing cannot put back clear coat that is gone. And if the interior is the only problem, pay for the interior. There is no rule that says you need both halves every time.

Where the higher tiers do earn their price: a newer car you plan to keep for years, a dark-colored car that shows every swirl, or a family car that needs one real reset before you go back to easy upkeep.

Does mobile detailing cost more in Boise?

Not necessarily. Many mobile detailers fold travel into the price for nearby customers. Boise Bros Detailing, for example, charges no travel surcharge anywhere in Ada County and includes travel for most Canyon County jobs. For a closer look at the mobile side of pricing, read their breakdown of what mobile detailing costs in Boise, and compare the tradeoffs in our mobile vs shop guide.

Is it cheaper to detail your car yourself?

In dollars, usually yes, especially if you already own buckets, microfiber towels, a decent vacuum, and a pH-neutral soap. A careful wash, a wheel clean, a vacuum, and a wipe-down of the dash and glass are well within reach for most people. Where DIY gets harder is carpet extraction, heavy pet hair, and machine polishing, which need equipment and some practice to do without causing new problems.

The real cost is time. If you would rather not give up a Saturday to it, a mobile detailer can do the work in your driveway or at your office while you get on with your day. There is no driving to a shop and no waiting room. Boise Bros Detailing, the benchmark used above, confirms the price after a free inspection when they arrive, before any work starts, and answers quotes sent with photos within the hour.
